Yellow warnings are in place with the threat of thunderstorms and flash flooding. Much of the country is set for heavy rain and strong winds. Meteorologist Luke Miall explained: “Quite an unsettled one.

“But for some of us, a cold start to the day across parts of northeast Scotland, northeast England.”

During the morning, it is expected to be sunnier to the east of the Pennines.

Mr Miall stated: “Heaviest rain further south, accompanied by some stronger winds.”

There will also be “Pulses of rain across much of England and Wales”.

He added: “Heaviest of the rain starts to pull itself eastwards into the afternoon, we may see a little bit of brightness in the west but a lot of low cloud around the coast and hills, it’s quite misty and murky come the afternoon.

“Temperatures quite disappointing for this stage in August, feeling a bit more like autumn.”

Yellow warnings are in place for thunderstorms across the Midlands and East Anglia.

There is a chance of flash flooding in these places also.

Thursday will be “drier and more settled for some places, a few showers around for some but a little bit more in the way of sunshine”.

Friday will be: “Quite a wet an windy day.”

The weekend is expected to be unsettled.

There is, however, less certainty about the weekend weather at this point.
