Tropical Cyclone Seven: NOAA names storm as it barrels towards Mexico – to hit in hours | World | News

The government of Mexico has issued a tropical storm warning after the NOAA named a tropical cyclone expected to form later today over the southwestern gulf of Mexico. The barrelling storm is cureently located less than 250 miles from Mexico with maximum sustained winds of 35mph. The storm comes as Hurricane Dorian, which reached Category 5 strength yesterday, continues to pound Bahamas, where at least five people have lost their lives. But what is the latest news about Tropical Cyclone Seven?

Tropical Cyclone Seven is currently located at latitude 23.5 north, longitude 94.3 west which is approximately 220 miles east of La Pesca, Mexico and 245 miles east northeast of Tampico, Mexico.

According to the 4am CDT update (10am BST), the storm is moving westwards at 7mph with a minimum central pressure of 1006mb (29.71 inches).

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for La Pesca to Barra El Mezquital, meaning that tropical storm conditions are expected somewhere within the warning area within 36 hours.

The NOAA forecasts a 100 percent chance of formation through the next 48 hours and/or five days.

The National Hurricane Center advisory said: “A motion toward the west or west-northwest is forecast on Wednesday.

“Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph (55 km/h) with higher gusts.

“Some strengthening is forecast is forecast during the next 48 hours, and the disturbance is expected to become a tropical cyclone later today and become a tropical storm by tonight.

“Shower and thunderstorm activity has been steadily increasing in coverage and organization this morning, and the low is likely to become a tropical depression or a tropical storm later today or


Tropical Cyclone Seven will bring hazardous wind and rainfall to the regions nearby, particularly Mexico.

Tropical storm conditions are expected to first reach the coast within the warning area by Wednesday evening, making outside preparations difficult or dangerous.

Rainfall totals are estimated to reach 6 to 12 inches with isolated areas reaching 15 inches likely over portions of northeastern Mexico, especially in mountainous terrain.

The storm is estimated to make landfall off the east cost of Mexico late on Tuesday night or during the early hours of Wednesday.

Tropical Cyclone Seven is predicted to reach wind speeds of 46mph (40 kts) as it tracks closer to land, with wind speeds predicted to be around 35mph (30 kts) when it reaches inland.

The storm is expected to dissipate by Friday at the latest.
