Transfer news LIVE: Ozil to Man Utd, Chelsea eye former Liverpool target, Arsenal approach | Football | Sport

Jack Rodwell to Roma

Former Sunderland midfielder Jack Rodwell is set to undergo a shock medical at Serie A side Roma.

Rodwell has been a free agent since being released by Blackburn Rovers in June.

The 28-year-old has had the first part of his medical and will complete the second part today.

Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Bryan Cristante, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Amadou Diawara are all injured as Roma look to strengthen their midfield ranks.

Man Utd closing in

Manchester United chief Ed Woodward is ready to back Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are closing in on two January signings with Ed Woodward ready to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer turn things around.

The Red Devils have endured a difficult campaign so far, winning two of their opening nine Premier League games but taking some solace in the Europa League, where they’ve amassed seven points from a possible nine.

And with United suffering, the Mirror claim United are closing in on the signing of Denis Zakaria.

Express Sport understands the first signing, however, is likely to be Mario Mandzukic.

Man Utd told to sign Mesut Ozil

Paul Scholes has advised Manchester United to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

Unai Emery hasn’t included the 31-year-old in any of Arsenal’s last five match day squads despite him being fully fit and available.

“I knew you wouldn’t want me to say this on air but we were watching the game and you said someone like Mesut Ozil would make a real difference in this Manchester United team,” BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey said.

Scholes replied: “Yeah, I can’t understand it. I think he’s a player who can link a team together. I think he’s got great quality, he’s shown that in his career. He could be an answer short term, I don’t know.”

Chelsea eye two strikers

Chelsea have identified two top targets in the event of their transfer ban being lifted for the January window.

The Blues reportedly want Callum Wilson and Timo Werner.

Frank Lampard’s side have been on fire in recent weeks, having won four of their last five Premier League matches.

Much of that success has been down to Tammy Abraham’s fine form in front of goal with the 22-year-old scoring eight goals in nine league games in his breakout season for the Blues.

And despite Chelsea wanting two forwards in January, they are reportedly only set to be back-ups for the academy graduate.

The Sun reports that Lampard has made signing a back-up striker his priority for the January window, with the club confident their transfer ban will be lifted.

Arsenal identify Dani Ceballos replacement

Arsenal have already identified a potential long-term successor to the on-loan Dani Ceballos, it has been suggested.

The Gunners brought the 23-year-old in on loan from Real Madrid in the summer and he has been a regular under Unai Emery.

If the north London club are forced to look elsewhere, Football London claim that there is one player who is already on Emery’s radar.

RB Salzburg midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai is one player who Arsenal have already spoken with, having been in contact with his representatives earlier this year about a move next summer.

The 18-year-old Hungarian has three goals and three assists for the Austrian outfit this term and recently faced Liverpool at Anfield in the Champions League.
