The seven words Conor McGregor last said about a trilogy fight with Nate Diaz | UFC | Sport

Fan favourite Diaz returns to action early on Sunday morning in the co-main event of UFC 241, in Anaheim, California.

Welcoming the Ultimate Fighter season five winner back to the cage will be former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis, a man whom he’s had a beef with for nearly four years.

Diaz’s last outing took place 1074 days ago in the main event of UFC 202, in which he locked horns with Conor McGregor.

The Stockton native dropped a highly-contentious majority decision to ‘The Notorious’, a result many still debate till this day.

Talk of a trilogy fight has raged ever since that night at Las Vegas’ T-Mobile Arena, with many believing a rubber match with Diaz makes the most sense for McGregor at this moment in time.

And in February, the UFC’s first simultaneous two-weight world champion hinted he’s open to settling the score with Diaz next.

After seeing a UFC tweet which included quotes from Anderson Silva about a potential rematch with Nick Diaz, McGregor quote tweeted his willingness to face the youngest Diaz brother.

His tweet read: “Book it. I’ll fight Nate on it.”

The tweet garnered over 11,000 retweets and close to 61,000 likes.

Prior to his tweet, McGregor last spoke about a trilogy fight with Diaz during an appearance on Ariel Helwani’s MMA Show ahead of his UFC 229 showdown with Khabib Nurmagomedov.

And he was quick to assure fans he won’t hang up his gloves before having a series decider with the TUF alumni.

“Nate Diaz will always have a rematch off of me, he gave me a rematch, so I’ll give him a rematch,” McGregor said.

“I don’t know if it will happen next, but no matter what happens, he will always have a rematch off me. We will complete that trilogy, no doubt about it.”

Diaz, however, will need some convincing to throw down with ‘Mystic Mac’ for a third time.

“I’m not interested in it at all,” Diaz told Ariel Helwani. “I’m interested in winners. He lost his last fight, and I won my last fight.

“You think I’m trying to fight someone who just got his a** beat all over the place? I’m a black belt in jiu-jitsu. That s**t wouldn’t happen to me.”
