Sophie Wessex snub: The shock revelation Lady Louise had about the Queen at school | Royal | News

Sophie Wessex is an experienced member of the Royal Family, as she marks 20 years of successful marriage with Prince Edward this year. The royal was once allegedly enlisted by the Queen to mentor Meghan Markle as she integrated with the family. Before Meghan joined The Firm, however, the countess was taking care of the next generation of the Royal Family in her daughter Lady Louise and son Viscount James.

Speaking to Sky News’ Rhiannon Mills in 2016, Sophie Wessex said it wasn’t until she went to school that she realised the Queen and her grandmother were the same person.

She said: “I can’t necessarily remember when that realisation was there because when you grow up in that family and in that environment, that’s just what your parents do.

“It’s been much more interesting watching our children growing up and watching out children trying to work out what that this, and how that works.

“It was probably not until five or six I think.”

“I mean Louise had no concept really that the Queen and her grandmother were one and the same person.”

She expanded on the realisation to BBC’s Louise Minchlin later on, saying it was a “shock to the system” for Louise.

She said: “Well, for Louise, actually, it was much more of a shock to the system.

“It was only when she was coming home from school and saying, ‘Mummy, people keep on telling me that grandma is the queen.’”

“And I asked her, ‘Yes, how does that make you feel?’ And she said, ‘I don’t understand.’

“I don’t think she had grasped that perhaps there was only one Queen.”

According to body language experts, when Meghan was just a fledgeling royal, she stepped up to help her acclimate to the family.

Judi James, a body language expert, told Sophie’s presentation suggests the Queen favoured her as an “ally” for Meghan.

Her presence comes as she is a “confidante” for the Queen, according to Judi.

She said: “The Queen’s body language with Sophie always suggests her daughter-in-law is a bit of a confidante with Sophie’s relaxed, constantly calm and upbeat demeanour seeming to allow the Queen to relax more in her company, too.”

In addition to helping Meghan, the Countess of Wessex has taken on new patronage.

Love Musgrove, the official charity for Musgrove Park Hospital in Taunton, announced her as their newest patron today.
