Prince Andrew latest news: Royal speaks out over paedophile Jeffrey Epstein scandal | Royal | News

The royal has been photographed numerous times with the billionaire and Andrew denies any involvement in allegations against Epstein. According to the Daily Mirror, Epstein was found dead in his cell last weekend as he awaited child offence charges and court proceedings against him to take place. The Duke of York had been under pressure to make a statement due to his widely known friendship with Epstein.

Epstein has previously served prison time for sex offences against children.

But in a statement, Buckingham Palace said: “The Duke of York has been appalled by the recent reports of Jeffrey Epstein’s alleged crimes.

“His Royal Highness deplores the exploitation of any human being and the suggestion he would condone, participate in or encourage any such behaviour is abhorrent.”

The Duke and Epstein were pictured together after the businessman was released from prison for sex offences back in 2010.

Epstein was arrested in July on federal sex trafficking and conspiracy charges relating to the alleged abuse of hundreds of young girls.

The American financier and billionaire was found dead at the New York Metropolitan correctional centre (MCC) this month.

A spokeswoman for New York City Chief Medical Examiner Aja Worthy-Davis confirmed on Friday that an autopsy had concluded that Epstein’s cause of death was suicide by hanging.

Ms Worthy-Davis said an official report on Epstein’s death would be disclosed on Friday.

Since his death, questions surrounding the conditions of the Manhattan jail where he was held have been raised along with widespread speculation about the circumstance of his death.

Previously, a legal spokesman for the Prince said: “This relates to proceedings in the United States, to which The Duke of York is not a party.

“Any suggestion of impropriety with underage minors is categorically untrue.”

“It is emphatically denied that The Duke of York had any form of sexual contact or relationship with Virginia Roberts. Any claim to the contrary is false and without foundation.”
