Prince Andrew latest: ‘He knows what he’s done’ Accuser demands royal ‘come clean’ | Royal | News

Virginia Giuffre, who alleges she had sex with the Duke of York three times when she was a teenager, added: “I hope he comes clean about it.” She was among dozens of women who spoke out about the abuse they suffered at the hands of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein. In a New York court, Ms Giuffre – who went by the surname Roberts at the time of the alleged offence – told how Epstein, 66, and his then-girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell committed “dark and cruel criminal acts” against her.

It is the first time 57-year-old Ms Maxwell has been accused of being complicit in Epstein’s abuse in a criminal court. She denies any wrongdoing.

A judge invited Epstein’s victims to speak ahead of a ruling to formally dismiss the sex trafficking case against him following his suicide earlier this month.

Many of the women – who were preyed on when they were teenagers – called on prosecutors to continue the investigation and bring his co-conspirators to justice.

One victim, Sarah Ransome, said: “Please, please finish what you have started. We all know he did not act alone. He showed the world what a cowardly human being he was by taking his own life.”

Another added: “They need to be held accountable, all of them.” Investigators allege that Epstein’s abuse was abetted by a number of unidentified co-conspirators.

They are suspected of providing him with a string of young girls to satisfy his sexual obsessions.

None of the alleged conspirators have been publicly named or charged with any offence.

But prosecutor Maureen Comen said: “This dismissal in no way deters the government’s resolve in seeking justice for the victims in this case.”

Prince Andrew was famously photographed with his arm around Ms Roberts in 2001. Years later, in 2015, she claimed that she was forced to have sex with the Duke of York in London, New York and the US Virgin Islands.

However, a judge threw out her allegations because they were “immaterial and impertinent”.

The Prince, who was friends with Epstein, has always strongly denied any “sexual contact or relationship” with Ms Roberts.

Yesterday, Courtney Wild, one of Epstein’s victims, told the court she felt “angry and sad” that justice had not been served in the case.

Ms Wild, who was 14 when the billionaire began abusing her, said: “He robbed myself and all the other

victims of our day in court to confront him one-by-one, and for that he is a coward.”

Another victim, who did not give her name, said many of the victims “will never heal” while another woman told the court that she was “angry he’s not alive to have to pay the price for his actions”.

Judge Richard Bergman was last night expected to formally dismiss the criminal case against Epstein following his suicide.

The financier was jailed in 2008 after admitting procuring a person under 18 for prostitution and felony solicitation of prostitution.

He was jailed for 18 months after a controversial plea deal but served just 13 months of it – much of which was on day release.

Before his death in prison on August 10, Epstein was awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking of a minor and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking.
