Nora Quoirin: Family say ‘hearts are broken’ after teenager’s body found | UK | News

The family offered their emotional thanks to those involved in the search of the 15-year-old, who had special needs, after she vanished from an eco-resort in Dusun on August 4. The teenager’s body was discovered beside a small stream about 1.6 miles (2.5 kilometres) from the jungle resort. Ms Quoirin’s family said in a statement: “Nora is at the heart of our family. She is the truest, most precious girl and we love her infinitely.

“The cruelty of her being taken away is unbearable. Our hearts are broken.

“We will always love our Nora.”

The statement added: “We would like to thank all the people that have been searching for Nora and trying their best to find her.

“To all our friends and family at home, we can’t thank you enough for all your love.”

Search crews looking for Ms Quoirin played her mother’s voice in the thick jungle near her point of disappearance.

Meabh and Sebastien Quoirin, the parents of the teenager, are a French-Irish couple and have lived in London for 20 years.

Following the confirmation Ms Quoirin’s body had been found, Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar said the situation was “every family’s worst nightmare”.

He Tweeted: “Our thoughts & sincere condolences are with Nora Quoirin’s parents, siblings & wider family at this unimaginably difficult time.

“They have experienced every family’s worst nightmare. I’d like to pay tribute to everyone who searched for Nora. May she rest in peace.”

Police believe the teenager climbed out of the hotel room window.

The Quoirins said their daughter’s condition made her particularly vulnerable as she was not independent and had difficulty walking.

A post-mortem is due to take place on Wednesday to determine the cause of Ms Quoirin’s death.
