Melania Trump news: FLOTUS again avoids Trump impeachment inquiry during visit | World | News

While the First Lady and wife of US President Donald Trump spoke with lawmakers at Capitol Hill about the one-year anniversary of a law to address the opioid epidemic, there were other topics she refused to discuss. Melania avoided questions about the impeachment inquiry into her husband. According to reporters at the event, the First Lady was asked about the inquiry as she left the event.

She was asked: “How is the impeachment inquiry affecting you and your family?”

The First Lady, and mother of one, chose to remain silent and not answer the question.

Melania instead spent her time at Capitol Hill talking about the law Trump passed last October.

The First Lady said: “We continue to make great strides in our fight to end this crisis.

“I have traveled to some of the areas hardest hit by drug abuse and I have seen the devastating effects that this crisis has on families and children.

“This is why the SUPPORT Act is so important. It provides the necessary tools to fight this crisis.”

According to reporters in attendance, Melania gave only her brief remarks and thanked the others in the room after they thanked her for her work.

Melania previously spoke about her concerns over drug use, saying in March that she had talked to son Barron about the dangers of drugs.

Melania appeared to sidestep the latest controversy to hit the Trump administration by sharing several black-and-white photos of her and Trump at the United Nations general assembly.

The images celebrated the event with very minimal commentary.

She captioned her collage: “@POTUS & @FLOTUS #UNGA2019.

The collage included two pictures of her and Trump at the event.

It also included one of her in the crowd watching her husband speak.

Melania made no mention of the biggest news story in Washington at the time.

Elite Daily believed the First Lady was trying to “divert attention” away from the whole ordeal.

Melania also tweeted the pictures which provoked an onslaught of attacks from critics.

Meagan Dixon replied to Melania saying: “Tweet it while it’s true honey. You might want to get out your luggage.”

Andrew McMenemy added: “Shouldn’t you be packing?”
