Melania Trump confession: How First Lady ‘let slip that she’ll never go back to Slovenia’ | World | News

The First Lady, who married future US President Donald Trump in 2005, moved to the US in the late Nineties from Slovenia. She gave birth to their son Barron in 2006 and that same year swore in as a US citizen. She has since sponsored her parents Amalija and Viktor Knav’ green cards and they became US citizens themselves last year.

Jure Zorcic, a former boyfriend of the model, told ABC he reunited with her in New York in 2000, when she claimed she would never go back.

Mr Zorcic spoke of his surprise when she spoke to him in English rather than Slovenian.

He said: “I asked her: Did you forget that you are Slovenian?

“She told me she spent her time travelling between New York and For Lauderdale in Florida and that she would never go back to Slovenia.”

However, Melania has claimed her son Barron, 13, knows the language and speaks to his grandmother on the phone in Slovenian.

Mr Zorcic dated Melania in 1991, after he saw her walking by and was taken by her beauty.

He said: “We met each other like in a movie. It was a hot summer day, in between the wars in Slovenia.

“It was the beginning of a new political era for us, the city was empty, blocked by the army.

Mr Zorcic was surprised when Melania suddenly left Slovenia.

She had decided to quit university and work full time as a model in Paris and Milan, before eventually moving to New York City.

Mr Zorcic said: “She told me she had an offer with a hair care company, for a campaign – that’s why she left.”

He has fond memories of her, recalling her beauty, fashion sense and classiness.

Mr Zorcic said: “It was a bit of a shock when I met her. She is very special, that’s the truth.

“I was impressed by her beauty from the very first moment.

“She was very nicely dressed, and her behaviour was classy.

“She was tall, had long hair across her face – I could hardly see her eyes – such style!”

He added that she was not a typical Slovenian girl – that she wanted to live abroad in Italy and France even then.

Her former beau added that he thinks her marriage to Donald Trump is “fate”.

Mr Zorcic insisted: “Nobody believed 20 years ago that she would live at the top of the world, on Fifth Avenue in Trump Tower – even her!”
