Meghan Markle news: Kate Middleton banned from pregnancy tradition Duchess of Sussex used

While pregnant, Meghan mostly kept a low profile as she prepared to be a mother for the first time.

However, she did travel to the States in February this year to enjoy a popular pregnancy tradition, a baby shower.

Baby showers are parties that usually involve friends of the mother gathering together as they are showered with gifts.

The star-studded party was held at the five star The Mark Hotel in New York and reportedly lasted two days.

It was said to be arranged by her friends, including tennis champion, Serena Williams, and cost a total of £163,000.

Although having a baby shower may be seen as more of a tradition in the States, it is something expectant mothers will do across the world.

Kate Middleton is the wife of Prince William and the sister-in-law of the Duchess of Sussex.

The couple have three children together, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one.

Although she has been pregnant three times, it is believed Kate was banned from throwing a shower by the Royal Family.

While pregnant with Prince George, some reported Kate’s sister threw her a shower, but many royal experts have shot down those claims.

Speaking to People magazine, royal expert, Victoria Arbiter, said: “A lavish baby shower would be seen as highly inappropriate… there’s nothing they can’t go out and buy themselves.”

The American tradition seems to be one that is shunned by royals and many of them are known to have skipped this tradition.

As members of the Royal Family are generally not allowed to accept gifts, throwing the party could be seen as unnecessary.

Meghan, who was born in Los Angeles, may have been allowed to attend a shower of her own as it is more traditional in her home country.

It has also been reported the event may have been thrown for the royal as a surprise by her friends.
