Meghan Markle and Prince Harry block comments on latest Instagram post in private jet row | Royal | News

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex shared a picture yesterday of cupcakes with empowering messages from the bakery Meghan featured in her Vogue issue. But they turned comments off on the post after facing a backlash over their use of private jets.

Meghan and Harry were accused of hypocrisy when it emerged they took four private planes in 11 days despite repeatedly preaching to the public on climate change.

They travelled to Ibiza with baby Archie earlier this month before setting off on holiday to Nice.

On Tuesday, Meghan and Harry were hit by a barrage of criticism when they shared an inspirational quote from Archbishop Desmond Tutu on Instagram.

It read: “Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”

One Instagram user replied: “I would suggest that your contribution is to fly first class rather than on private jets all the time – a very small price to pay to avoid the obvious charges of wanton hypocrisy when preaching generally very positive messages to others.”

Another said: “Your little bit of good might be flying on commercial rather than always Private… remember that footprint you both talk about.”

A third wrote: “You leave yourself wide open for criticism practice what you preach.”

Another added: “I think you should read your comments before you post inspirational nonsense.”

In the caption Meghan says: “What they’ve created at Luminary Bakery is exceptional – it’s a space for baking, healing and rebuilding.

“When I visited earlier this year I was struck by how the baking, itself, is a means of therapy for these women – which in many ways makes complete sense – feeling they had no control over their lives based on their previous (and often harrowing) circumstances, they found comfort in the measured nature of baking.

“Mixing equal parts of one ingredient and another could yield the perfect dessert, but the act of doing so provided personal balance.

“So while the baked goods are absolutely delicious, it’s the story of how the program at Luminary reshapes lives through baking that is the actual icing on the cake.”

Harry’s wife featured Luminary Bakery in the September issue of Vogue she guest edited.

The east London bakery is an all-female team which offers training, employment and a community to help disadvantaged women.

The Instagram post comes after a royal source claimed Meghan was “riding above” the private jet row and refusing to “waste time or energy” on the furore after she visited Smart Works for a fashion photoshoot for her new clothing line with the charity which hits the shelves later this year.

The source told told Vanity Fair: “She’s moving on and riding above the storm.

“She’s not wasting time or energy on the row over the private jets, instead she’s getting very excited about the new launch.”
