Ahead of their royal tour later this year, the pair have hired a £30k a year social media influencer to help them permeate the world of social media in order to reach levels of relatability – crucial to their online personas. The 26-year-old man in charge, David Watkins, was snapped up from fashion label Burberry for the job, which was advertised on the royal website earlier this year.

The advert described the role as a Monday to Friday, 9-5 role, as “knowing your content will be viewed by millions”, Mr Watkins will now join a “fast paced and dynamic team” at Buckingham Palace.

A royal source told The Sun that Mr Watkins was “the perfect person” for the Digital Communications Lead position.

The source added that: ”Harry and and Meghan want to conquer the world and they want to do it through the prism of social media to really connect with their followers.

“His amazing video skills and visionary photographs have already been widely praised by the Sussexes’ fans.”

While the Cambridges use a social media team shared with Buckingham Palace, the Sussexes’ have opted to hire Mr Watkins for themselves alone.

Many royal fans have been eager to find out about the new addition to the repertoire of the newly weds.

Mr Watkin’s LinkedIn page describes him as “a marketing, sporting and travel fanatic with both experiences on and off these fields, an International hockey player, Ironman and four-time marathon finisher with passion and knowledge of these sectors.

“Constantly challenging the status quote with a ‘start with why’ attitude, I find myself becoming more and more intrigued with finding scenarios outside of my comfort zone and asking the question, ‘How can I help others?’”

David will join a team of women including private secretary Fiona Mcilwham, head of communications Sara Latham, Sussex Royal trustee Karen Blackett, Sussex Royal director Natalie Campbell and deputy private secretary Heather Wong.

Many of those already working for the Duke and Duchess has extensive communications and PR experience working in American and British politics, while Mr Watkins spent the past four years working at Burberry; first as a global social media assistant and then global coordinator.

While Harry lists Botswana, Angola and Malawi, Meghan, Archie and the nanny will stay in South Africa.

Mr Watkins is believed to have been recruited in order to bolster their royal tour, promoting it and looking at different ways to disseminate the events that unfold while there.

The addition to the royal reserve comes as Meghan prepares to visit Princess Diana’s grave for the first time with Harry.

The Sussexes will make the “pilgrimage” to Althorp Estate, where the Princess’s grave can be found in the middle of a lake.

Harry has spoken candidly of how he believes his mum and Meghan would have been “best friends”.

The trip will act as a moment of calm and offer a time for reflection in what has been a tumultuous period for the pair.

Last week, both Meghan and Harry were lambasted by members of the public and several high profile figures after they used four private jets in a matter of weeks.

Many came to there defence, including Sir Elton John, who said he provided the couple with a private jet for a luxury stay at his villa in Nice.

Sir Elton claimed that the jet was “carbon neutral” to ensure the Duke and Duchess maintained their pledge to the environment.

One outspoke critic, Piers Morgan, said in a tweet: “Jeez… these two ‘eco-warriors’ are something else. Beyond parody.”

Despite being vocal about the apparent hypocrisy of Meghan and Harry, Piers later went on to rent a £1million super yacht for a 10 day holiday around the South of France and Monaco.
