Marcus Rashford opens up on being in a ’tough place’ and addressing Man Utd’s poor form | Football | Sport

Manchester United need to “fight” to get through the tough place they’re currently in, after finding themselves seventh in the Premier League.

That’s the verdict of Marcus Rashford.

United beat Chelsea 2-1 in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night thanks to a double from the young English forward.

The 22-year-old scored a penalty in the first-half before a belter of a free-kick with 20 minutes to play.

His set-piece bore a striking resemblance to Cristiano Ronaldo’s memorable effort against Portsmouth in 2008 at Old Trafford.

The win was United’s third in a row in all competitions, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer attempts to turn the Red Devils’ form around.

The Norwegian boss is under significant pressure at Old Trafford, with fans growing tired of the poor results after slipping to twelfth in the league at one point.

But now, Rashford is confident he and his team-mates have turned a corner, and said he wants to keep the momentum going after the win at Stamford Bridge.

“We’ve been in a tough place,” he said.

“We’re still getting through that phase and the only way to do it is to fight your way through it and get three points because at the end of the day they’re the things that keep everybody happy.

“When you go home and you’ve won the game, whether it’s home or away, that’s when you wake up with a good feeling.

“So we just want to recreate that as much as possible this season.

“The main focus for us is improvement and development because we’re definitely going places. From pre-season, we did a lot of good work.

“The start of the season wasn’t exactly what we expected but we’ve got to get through it and get back to winning games.

“I don’t think we’re even half way playing to the potential of the team. The only way to get to that 100 per cent of what we can do is to keep putting the work in, keep listening to the manager and the coaching staff, and just keep believing.

“That’s what we’ve done today and you can see the result.”
