Man Utd news: Romelu Lukaku goal sends fans into a frenzy over summer transfer | Football | Sport

Manchester United may have been watching Inter Milan’s win over Brescia on Tuesday night with gritted teeth.

Lukaku’s frustrating two-year spell at Old Trafford came to an end this summer when he was sold to Antonio Conte’s Inter for £74million.

And the striker hasn’t looked back, taking the Italian top flight by storm since his move.

Lukaku’s stunning long range effort in Inter’s 2-1 win over Brescia was his seventh goal of the season.

He celebrated by running into the arms of former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.

And United’s rivals have mocked the club for failing to take to the talented forward.

One person tweeted: “Lukaku doing what he did at Manchester United but plastic fans were more concerned about his first touch.”

Another wrote: “With every match Lukaku plays for Inter, he shows Man Utd how much of a mistake they did by letting him go.

A third posted: “Look how Lukaku who was much-maligned at Man United went to hug Conte after scoring yesterday. That’s how you know a Manager has helped rejuvenate a player.”

And some United fans were equally perplexed at seeing the striker shine while the Red Devils have struggled since his departure.

One wrote: “Selling Lukaku was one of the worst decisions made by a united manager especially considering the clowns that remained in his place.”

Another mockingly said: “Remember when we sold an actual striker who scores goals and didn’t replace him? Good times.”

The Belgium international often drew a lot of criticism from United fans throughout his time at the club, despite a decent strike record of 42 goals in 96 matches.

And after sealing his move to Italy, Lukaku appeared to take a swipe at United fans for always trying to “find somebody to blame”.

“I put my hand up, like, this year I don’t think I was the only one playing bad. A lot of people were playing bad but they had to find the culprit,” he said on the LightHarted Podcast back in August.

“If they want to put the blame on me, you know what, f**k it, do what you gotta do.

“I think the team has so much potential to do some great stuff. There is a lot of talent. But it is not only talent; you really have to build a team.”
