Man Utd have seven-man transfer shortlist but Ed Woodward may pull plug on January deals | Football | Sport

Manchester United have seven main targets for the January transfer window but may not sign any of them.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have struggled so far this season and sit way down in 10th place in the Premier League after 11 matches.

Manchester United are looking to strengthen in January but are looking for a different x-factor compared to the additions they’ve made in previous years.

Jadon Sancho is the top target, according to the Evening Standard, but United accept it will probably be difficult to convince the Borussia Dortmund star to make the switch.

The England international would fit the profile of stars United have previously been linked with.

He would be a marquee signing similar to that of Angel di Maria or Zlatan Ibrahimovic in previous seasons.

The report claims that United will not be forced into panic buys this January though and therefore could miss out on Sancho and six other targets.

The Evening Standard say Mario Mandzukic, Emre Can, James Maddison, Richarlison, Moussa Dembele and Erling Haaland are all being considered.

Midfield and attack remain the priority areas for Solskjaer to strengthen.

The most likely signing is Mandzukic who would offer United a different dimension in attack and the Croatia international is surplus to requirements at Juventus.

Former Liverpool ace Can is also a possibility in the immediate future.

Maddison, Haaland and Dembele would be tough transfers to complete in January and it may be that those pursuits have to wait until the summer.

Solskjaer has been promised the funds to make signings in the January window if summer targets become available though.

United return to action tomorrow in the Europa League when they take on Partizan Belgrade at Old Trafford (8pm).
