Man Utd fans react as David de Gea starts against Liverpool in surprise injury boost | Football | Sport

Manchester United fans have reacted to David de Gea‘s shock inclusion in the starting XI to face Liverpool.

The 28-year-old was expected to miss the visit of the Merseysiders with a groin injury, which he picked up whilst on international duty with Spain.

The former Atletico Madrid stopper appeared to pull his groin in the 60th minute of Spain’s Euro 2020 qualifier with Sweden on Tuesday night, which ended 1-1.

De Gea, however, has shaken off the setback – which led to his substitution – and will start between the sticks for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men, who are badly in need of a win.

“De Gea will return to being the best in the world today mark my words,” tweeted one Manchester United fan.

Another said: “David De Gea returning to the starting XI for Liverpool is the greatest comeback since Jesus himself was resurrected.”

“De Gea playing with an injury which means after today, we will see him next year,” tweeted another of the Old Trafford faithful.

“De Gea is playing,” said one over the moon United supporter. “We got James and Bissaka too.”

“De Gea starting gives me a little hope,” declared one optimistic Red Devil fan.

Not all United followers were happy with De Gea’s inclusion in the starting XI, with one fan tweeting: “Love #deGea but #Romero should be playing today.”

Another said: “Think we all knew De Gea was starting haha, they’re embarrassing.” “David De Gea can’t escape this a** whooping,” said one seemingly pessimistic supporter.

“De Gea is so dropping a clanger isn’t he,” said another. “De Gea is a wrong call.”

Solskjaer will be hoping De Gea can keep a clean sheet and help guide United to their first league victory in four matches.

The Norwegian insists his troops will go all out to beat the runaway league leaders, who have yet to drop a point this season, saying: “You never take a draw when you’re at Man United.

“I want to go out there and get three points. We need points. It doesn’t matter if it’s Liverpool or Man City or Brighton we want to win games, we need to start winning games and let’s see how the game pans out.

“A good performance, a good result, a good outcome for us here can change player’s confidence, player’s mood, player’s perception of what’s good.

”Maybe they’ve not really believed they’re good enough at times. With confidence, you think twice instead of just acting on instinct. I know these players are good enough. No worries about that.“
