Man City: Ilkay Gundogan rages against VAR after Tottenham goal decision | Football | Sport

After the introduction of VAR, the new handball rules indicate that if an attacking player handles the ball in the box – with any part of his arm, whether intentional or not – and it leads to a goal, it should be ruled out.

But, the Germany international thinks it doesn’t make sense, and there needs to be a change somewhere.

“Today’s VAR decision is really hard to take,” said the City midfielder, tweeting after the match.

“Any attacker that commits handball, intentional or not, is now ruled a free kick??

“And if you’re defending it’s fine?? It only disadvantages the attacking team.

“In my opinion this rule needs to be changed.”

He also said that City dominated match, and ultimately they were unlucky to not leave with three points.

“Hard to accept this result,” he said. “We played some pretty good football, dominated the match, but luck was not on our side.

“We’ll stay confident and the next victories will follow.”

City had 30 shots during the game – 10 of which were on target – compared to Tottenham’s three shots, and two on target.

The Citizens also had 13 corners in the match, while Spurs managed just two. But, Tottenham’s second goal came from the corner spot.

City will now have to pick themselves up after the controversial decision, and prepare for their next match against Bournemouth on Sunday (2pm), at the Vitality Stadium.
