Liverpool news: Peter Crouch says why Sheffield United win is great sign for title hopes | Football | Sport

Liverpool showed against Sheffield United that they can win games “ugly”, claims former Reds striker Peter Crouch.

Jurgen Klopp’s side maintained their 100 per cent start to the season at Bramble Lane on Saturday.

They had to rely on a shocking goalkeeper error though from Sheffield United stopper Dean Henderson.

The Manchester United loanee let a Georginio Wijnaldum volley through his body and could only agonisingly watch it creep over the line.

The hosts had their own chances and will be frustrated not to have beaten Liverpool goalkeeper Adrian at least once.

Liverpool have won their first seven games of the season, sitting eight points clear of second-placed Manchester City before their trip to Everton on Saturday evening.

And after the match, Crouch claimed the victory showed Liverpool have more than one way of winning a game.

“You can’t blitz teams every week,” he said on BT Sport.

“They’ve been so impressive but they dug in against Chelsea at times last week, they dug in again today.

“It’s a difficult, difficult place to come, Sheffield United, and that was proved to be the case today.

“But they’ve come through it and they’ve won ugly.”

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp, who was suspended for the match, was working alongside Crouch as a pundit.

And he felt for Henderson after his costly error.

“[I feel] A lot of pride, we put in a really good performance and matched, for chances, one of the best teams in the league,” Sharp said.

“I’m just gutted for Hendo, he’s a young kid with a lot of ambitions in his career.

“I’m gutted for him today because we didn’t deserve that, especially him.”

Liverpool will be aiming to make it 17 Premier League wins in a row next Saturday when former manager Brendan Rodgers takes his Leicester City side to Anfield.
