Liverpool could be set to sign perfect blend of Luis Suarez, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt | Football | Sport

Timo Werner ticks all of the boxes and in the German, Liverpool are about to sign a superstar in the making. He’s not quite there yet, but his star quality across the board makes him one of the most well-rounded strikers on the market. For that reason, he is by far the best choice for Jurgen Klopp this summer.

He knows it too and has told the board that Werner fits his team perfectly.

Now he will wait for the club’s hierarchy to take care of business, once the financial landscape is clearer.

Werner has 25 Bundesliga goals to his name this season and the return of the German top-flight has given Liverpool a taste of what they could get their hands on.

He fired a hat-trick at Mainz nearly two weeks ago while adding another to his tally in the 4-2 win at Koln on Monday.

The 24-year-old can score all kinds of goals and can operate in a number of roles, so with that in mind, Express Sport takes a look at how he compares to three modern Anfield heroes.

Fernando Torres

Like Torres, Werner adores to run in behind defenders.

His movement means defenders cannot afford to switch off for a single minute.

The Spaniard also loved running at goal from the left of the penalty box on his right foot, just like Werner.

Torres could go over way by cutting inside on his strong foot, or rolling the ball to the outside and opening up his body.

Werner also loves to round the goalkeeper, something that became Torres’ trademark during his time on Merseyside.

Dirk Kuyt

A different type of forward in more ways than one, but Kuyt was adored by supporters and was a player they were sad to see go.

What’s similar between the pair is that Kuyt was tactically very flexible.

Under Rafael Benitez and Kenny Dalglish, he could play on the wing in a 4-2-2 or as a No 10 or 9.

While Werner is predominantly a striker, he has also played off the left several times this season.

He does not shy away from a penalty either and has a knack of scoring big goals, just like Kuyt.
