Kate Middleton news: Prince William gave Duchess third wedding ring for this reason

Kate Middleton tied the knot with Prince William, 37, eight years ago on 29 April 2011. On the big day, she borrowed the Cartier Halo tiara from the Queen and was given a gold wedding band. Since then, she has been known for wearing subtle and classy pieces of jewellery, including many items from the royal collection. She wears three rings on her wedding finger at all times and they all have a very sweet meaning.

When the Duke and Duchess got engaged, Kate was presented with a diamond and sapphire engagement ring.

The stunning ring was designed by the royal jeweller, Garrad, and was the engagement ring Prince Charles gave to William’s mother, Princess Diana.

The ring featured 14 solitaire diamond and a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire, set in 18-karat gold and Kate still wears this ring at all times.

On her big day, Kate was given a gold wedding band which was made from the family’s collection of Welsh gold in accordance with royal tradition.

Her wedding ring had a link to the royal family as the design was similar to ones worn by both Queen Elizabeth II and the Queen Mother and Kate still wears the design today.

However, in recent years the Duchess started wearing a third band on the same finger which was given to her by Prince William for a very sweet reason.

Kate and William have three children together, Prince George, six, Princess Charlotte, four, and Prince Louis, one.

After the birth of their first child, Prince George, William gave Kate the jewellery as a gift.

Kate received a diamond eternity ring after the couple started their family which she wears on her ring finger with her engagement ring and wedding band.

As well as wearing pieces of jewellery which have been gifted to her by royals, Kate recently started wearing a piece from her private collection
