Jurgen Klopp handed international break boost as video shared from Liverpool training base | Football | Sport

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has been handed a boost during the international break as footage of Alisson Becker returning to light training has emerged.

The Brazil international suffered an injury during the Reds’ opening season win over Norwich City, when he picked up a calf injury while taking a goal-kick in the first half.

Since then Becker has been undergoing a rehabilitation programme and while the club has refused to put a date on his return, the keeper is apparently making good progress.

On Thursday Alisson uploaded a video of himself on social media taking part in a training session at the club’s Melwood facility.

The keeper posted the message on Twitter with the caption: “Starting the morning in a good way!”

The fact that Allisson has returned to light training will no doubt be welcome news for Klopp as the player continues on his journey to full recovery.

Liverpool, who are the only team in the Premier League to win all of their games, are back in action on September 14, when they will host Newcastle at Anfield.

Klopp is expected to once again select back-up goalkeeper Adrian, who joined the club on a free transfer this summer, to start the game.

And the former West Ham goalkeeper is also expected to start for Liverpool when they travel to Italy to face Napoli for their first Champions League group-stage fixture three days later.

Last week the German coach revealed it would take time for Alisson to regain proper function of his calf muscle again.

“He [has] made steps, of course, but it was a proper injury, so it will still take time,” Klopp said at the end of August.

“How it always is with professional sportsmen, when you have a muscle thing and it takes long, then it takes a while as well until you can bring the muscle to at least the same level it was before.

“A calf muscle is pretty important for jumping – and for a goalie, it is quite important that you can jump from time to time, so it will take time.

“But, thank God – and hopefully it stays like this – we have a fit Adrian in the back and now in charge, which is good. So far, I am really happy with everything I saw.

“He is a good guy, which is important as well, but most importantly, of course, he can catch balls and that’s good as well.

“The solution we found for it is really good, but of course it would be better if Ali was around but that will take still some time.”
