Joe Biden eye: ‘Blood fills Democratic candidate’s eye’ during TV debate | World | News

The former US Vice President was answering questions from the audience regarding the climate crisis when his left eye began to go dark red in colour. The colour of his eye sparked a a huge reaction on social media, with viewers rushing to comment on it and some claiming they “could not stop looking at it”. It is thought the cause of Biden’s scare was a broken blood vessel in the eye, which can be caused by high blood pressure or straining.

The town hall debate was attended by 10 Democratic Party candidates for the 2020 US elections.

Biden is currently leading the polls in the race to challenge President Donald Trump, with a national polling average of 29 percent. His nearest contender is Elizabeth Warren on 17 percent.

The 76-year-old has history with health issues, having suffered from asthma and allergies and also takes a prescription drug to lower his cholesterol. He has also taken medication for an enlarged prostate.

Biden has not disclosed his medical history since 2008, when doctors found he had an irregular heartbeat.

He served as Vice President under Barack Obama, playing a key role in pushing through legislation and supporting Obama on key issues such as Afghanistan, often playing a contrarian role within administration talks.

Biden has also developed a reputation in the US for verbal gaffes.

The most notorious of all was when he described Obama’s health care bill as a “big f****** deal” while still mic’d up during the announcement at the White House.

Trump’s son Donald Jr challenged Biden this week on Twitter, referring to his “forgetfulness” over a story Biden told about an interaction between him and a US Navy captain. Many claimed the story was false.

There are still four primary debates to come in the Democrats’ race for candidacy, the next debate is on September 12.

The current Vice President Mike Pence visited Ireland this week, and took the opportunity to reaffirm the Trump administration’s support for Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Pence said: “As the deadline for Brexit approaches we urge Ireland and the European Union, as well, to negotiate in good faith with Prime Minister Johnson, and work to reach an agreement that respects the United Kingdom’s sovereignty and minimises the disruption to commerce.”

Pence is now on his way to London to meet the Prime Minister, who will need a boost after defeats in the Commons this week have disrupted his Brexit plans.
