Ivanka Trump: How Donald Trump ‘wanted daughter to marry American footballer Tom Brady’ | World | News

Ivanka Trump is senior adviser to the President for women’s issues and her husband Jared Kushner is a senior adviser for strategic planning. While the President has given Jared one of the most influential jobs in the world, he seemed to be rather disappointed when Ivanka first married him. He mentioned several times that he would have preferred her to wed the quarterback for the New England Patriots of the National Football League.

According to 2016 book ‘Kushner Inc’, he used to say to his friends “Why couldn’t she have married Tom Brady?”

“Have you seen how far he throws a football?”

A highly successful sportsman, Mr Brady has played in nine Super Bowles and won six of them, the most of any player in NFL history.

Mr Trump once joked to Robert Kraft, owner of the New England Patriots, that: “Jared is half the size of Tom Brady’s forearm.”

He made this awkward snub to his son-in-law in front of Trump Organisation colleagues.

It appears Ivanka’s choice of husband was not the only fly in the ointment for Mr Trump, though.

He was also rather taken aback when she converted to Judaism in order to marry into the Jewish Kushner family.

He reportedly said to his political aide Sam Nunberg: “Why should my daughter have to convert to marry anyone?”

In 2005, he pleaded guilty for 18 counts of aiding in the preparation of false tax returns, making false statements to the Federal Electoral Commission and retaliating against a witness.

Charlie was sentenced to two years in prison for his multiple crimes.

According to ‘Kushner Inc’ author Vicky Ward, Mr Trump thought Charlie was “stupid to have been caught by the feds”.

A source said: “He really looked down on that.”

However, concerns about the match were not just one-sided.

At first, Charlie and his wife Seryl had been dead set against Jared dating Ivanka and refused to even meet her.

They were “dismayed” at the idea of their favourite son marrying outside the faith.

Their disapproval even contributed to Jared and Ivanka’s brief break-up in 2008.

However, in 2009, Ivanka converted under the instruction of Rabbi Haskel Lookstein and soon her in-laws were “effusive” about her.

Jared, however, had lingering “doubts” about his father-on-law.

He would reportedly “poke fun at Trump’s more extreme behaviour”.

An executive who had worked with Jared recalled: “Jared would talk about his father-in-law like he’s one of a kind. You know, roll his eyes.”

Nevertheless, Ivanka and Jared were happily married in 2009, have since had three children and are one of the US’ most prominent ‘power couples’.
