The powerful storm may not make a direct hit at the US states, but coastal cities should prepare for severe weather.

Charleston, a low-lying area in South Carolina, could experience dangerous storm surges that could flood inland and do a lot of water damage.

According to the CNN, there are six to 12 inches of rain forecast.

Storm surge could reach seven feet high and several rivers could also back up and flood due to the surge.

Flooding is already occurring in downtown Charleston and the city’s police department has shut down more than a dozen streets due to the high tide.
