Hong Kong protests latest: Joshua Wong arrested a day before demonstration | World | News


The incident occurred around 7.30am on Friday morning local time. Mr Wong was arrested in South Horizons on Hong Kong Island. A Demosisto Facebook post wrote: “Demosisto secretary general Joshua Wong was arrested at roughly 7:30 this morning en route to the South Horizons MTR station, when he was suddenly pushed into a private car on the street.

“He has now been escorted to the police headquarters in Wan Chai on the basis of three charges.

“We will continue to follow the incident.”

The statement concludes: “Our lawyers are working on this case.”

Hong Kong Police Force have not yet commented.

The arrest comes a day before a planned demonstration that did not have police approval.

According to Hong Kong Free Press, the leader of the banned Hong Kong National Party is also facing charges of rioting and assaulting a police officer.
