Election 2019: How Bercow could BLOCK an election even if Corbyn and Boris want it | Politics | News

If Labour supported a general election motion before the bill become law, Mr Johnson could dissolve Parliament and the bill would be scrapped.

Then, if the Tories are victorious, Mr Johnson could press ahead with his Brexit plans and the no deal threat would persist.

So Mr Corbyn will not support the motion for an election until Monday at the earliest, once the bill is law.

But it’s not that simple. There are still plenty of obstacles which could crop up – one of which is the House Speaker, John Bercow.

Having already voted on the motion on Wednesday night, it is possible Mr Bercow could rule that under parliamentary rules, the motion is “already decided” and cannot be voted on again in the same session of Parliament.
