Celtic star Ryan Christie targets red card redemption with Lazio Europa League statement | Football | Sport

Celtic host Lazio this evening in a daunting encounter for the Premiership leaders, but Ryan Christie is confident as he looks to redeem himself for a recent red card.

The 24-year-old was given his marching orders in the first-half of the eventual 2-0 defeat at Livingston on October 6.

Christie missed the subsequent win over Ross County at the weekend, and is now back and ready for the tie against Lazio on Thursday.

“I’m delighted to be back,” he told the Hoops’ official Twitter account.

“I was very disappointed with the red card, to let everyone down.

“The only shining light of the two-game suspension was having this in between.“

Christie will also miss the trip to Aberdeen on Sunday as Celtic look to create some ground between Rangers in the table, and he knows he needs to give it his all at Parkhead tonight.

“I’m really looking forward to it,” he added.

“Hopefully get back on the pitch and the magnitude of the match as well.

“It’s a brilliant tie for everybody. We are looking to win.”

Before the test against the Serie A outfit, Neil Lennon has pledged to support his players should they be subject to abuse during the match.

“I have a duty of care to my players and I want them protected,” he said.

“They’re here to play football, it doesn’t matter what the colour of their skin is or what their background is.

“I’m hoping tomorrow is a celebration of football between two great clubs.

“In the main, I think Lazio have a great support. There are always a minority who want to overshadow the game, make noise for the wrong reasons or put a stain on the game.

“I’m hoping at the end of the game we’re talking about the great atmosphere and two great sides playing in a great game of football.”
