Bruno Fernandes’ top four reasons for picking Man Utd over Tottenham amid transfer battle | Football | Sport

Bruno Fernandes wanted to join Tottenham in the summer but, now, appears set to join Manchester United. The Sporting Lisbon star is keen on a move to Old Trafford – and Express Sport looks at the top four most probable reasons behind his thinking.

It’s Manchester United

First things first.

While Manchester United are no longer the club they were, they remain a superpower of the footballing world.

The Red Devils are, akin to the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona and Liverpool, one of the most-successful clubs in the whole world.

Playing for United means something, still. To play for them is a golden opportunity, one that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants the midfielder to take.

With all due respect to Tottenham, they’re simply not in the same bracket.

United want him more

Another reason Fernandes would now prefer to play for United is because they simply want him more.

In the summer, it was Tottenham who made the hardest push to try and sign the Portugal international.

But, now, United are the team showing the most interest in the 25-year-old.

Spurs have other priorities and are set to complete the loan signing of Gedson Fernandes from Benfica.

And that leaves United with a clear path to the playmaker.

A starring role

United can offer Fernandes a starring role at the club – which Tottenham can’t.

Harry Kane will always be Spurs’ talisman but Lucas Moura and Son Heung-Min are able deputies also highly regarded.

But, at United, he’d be expected to hit the ground running right away.

Marcus Rashford is the only talisman at the club for now. Paul Pogba is nowhere near that mantle and neither is the inconsistent Anthony Martial.

Fernandes, however, is different. He’d be an instant United starter, easily walking into the side over Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata.
