Brexit News: Steve Baker snaps at Remainers and their Brexit ‘nonsense’ in outraged rant | UK | News

Tory MP Steve Baker argued that the UK needs to proceed in a way that delivers the Brexit referendum in 2016 regardless of the decision of the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court’s decision to rule that Boris Johnson’s proroguing of Parliament was illegal was deemed to “deepen our political crisis” by Mr Baker. While on Sky News he said: “Where do we go from here, is a deepening political crisis.

“That is what this Supreme Court judgement has given us.

“We ought to have a general election.

“I mean I have listened to some real nonsense from opposition politicians talking about Boris and his attitude to democracy.

“Well they are the ones treating democracy with contempt.

“They should have voted for a general election which Boris Johnson gave them the opportunity to do and that is where we should be heading.”

Sky News’ Adam Boulton then challenged the MP by saying: “Well they have made a clear statement, that they think avoiding a no deal Brexit, which I know you would be okay with, is the priority that is why they have delayed the election.

“If you are talking about the respect for democracy we just had the Prime Minister effectively saying the Supreme Court got it wrong.

“And that an act passed by Parliament doesn’t apply, in the view of some, that might be in the view of some respecting democracy.”

“What we need to do here is that we need to move forward in a way that delivers our exit from the European Union.

“That is what the public voted for.

“I think what we are seeing today with Remain campaigners celebrating with this judgement is that they want to stop the result of a legitimate democratic choice which the public took.

“That is what we need to, get on with it and deliver our exit.”
