Brexit news: Jacob Rees-Mogg’s hilarious response to Remainers demanding he ‘sits up’ | UK | News

The Leader of the House of Commons was accused by Green Party leader Caroline Lucas of showing contempt for the House as his body language suggested he was “bored” by the anti-no deal debate. Ms Lucas said:  “There’s been a lot of talk about democracy tonight. And the Leader of the House, who I have to say with his body language throughout this evening has been so contemptuous of this House and the people.

“And for the benefit of hindsight, the Leader of the House has been spreading across around three seats lying out as if that was something very boring for him to listen to tonight.”

But as Remainers on the opposition benches could be heard shouting “sit up” at the prominent Brexiteer, Mr Rees-Mogg merely fixed his spectacles and continued unbothered to sit as he was.

Ms Lucas continued: “He’s been lecturing us about democracy, we will have none of it.

“Because this Government has no mandate for the vicious form of Brexit it is pursuing. It was never on the ballot paper.”

Labour MPs also took it to Twitter to criticise Mr Rees-Mogg.

Labour MP Anna Turley wrote: “The physical embodiment of arrogance, entitlement, disrespect and contempt for our parliament.”

Labour MP Toby Perkins responded: “Just go to your work tomorrow and during a crucial meeting sit like this when someone is speaking and see what happens.

“If it ends badly just regret the fact that you weren’t born to rule and far too important to listen to anyone else’s view.”

And Labour’s Karl Turner added: “As a working-class bloke brought up on a council estate in #Hull I always feel enormous pride and gratitude when I go into the chamber of the House of Commons to represent east #Hull.

“I’ve never felt a sense of entitlement. This is what that looks like!?”
