She added: “They have pussyfooted around for far too long and they are not thinking about the people.

“They are just thinking about themselves and what they can get out of it.

“I don’t believe the people are being thought of – we voted for out. It has been three years and we still haven’t got what we voted for.”

Another local resident said: “People just want politicians to finish it. It’s too late for a second referendum.”

The Conservative MP for Thurrock added: “Ultimately Boris Johnson is our PM and I will stand behind him and make sure he delivers.

“As long as he maintains the confidence of the Conservative Party, he will be there to do exactly that.

“We have to leave, we promised to take the instruction of the British people from the referendum.

“That date is now set in law for the 31st October. The fact is either we prolong that further or we revoke Article 50.

“It’s time that we left. Right now, the British people have no confidence in their politics.”
