Boxing news: Joseph Parker vs Dereck Chisora heavyweight bout cancelled | Boxing | Sport

New Zealand heavyweight Joseph Parker was set to take on Dereck Chisora on October 26, but was forced to withdraw through illness.

Promoter Eddie Hearn confirmed the news on Twitter on Tuesday night, whilst also announcing that Chisora will still fight on the card.

Chisora had previously complained that he wasn’t headlining the event, voicing his frustration that he was fighting on the undercard.

Now, he is set to have a new opponent, though it seems he will remain on the undercard.

Dan Rafael from ESPN reported that the illness had come about as a result of a spider bite.

The report stated that Parker had been bitten by a spider last week, and had been unable to train as a result.

The exact nature of his illness is still unknown, and Parker is reportedly undergoing tests to determine the extent of the illness.

The fight card will remain in shape, despite the cancellation of Parker vs Chisora.

Josh Taylor’s world super-lightweight championship unification will remain as the headline fight, as he takes on Regis Prograis.

The Scottish star is challenging for the WBA and WBC world titles, while defending his own IBF belt, in the World Boxing Super Series final.

Elsewhere on the card, Ricky Burns is fighting Lee Selby in an all-British dust-up, and Lawrence Okolie is fighting Yves Ngabu.

Chisora is on a two-fight win streak, having beaten Senad Gashi and Artur Szpilka in his last two outings.

The heavyweight is still hoping to make another run at a world title after losing to Dillian Whyte last December.

Parker, on the other hand, is on the comeback trail after back-to-back defeats against Anthony Joshua and Whyte.

He too is on a two-fight wins break, after beating Alexander Flores and Alex Leapai.
