BBC Weather: ‘Loop of cloud’ to sweep continent bringing sharp rain | Weather | News

Weather has warned of a low-pressure weather system currently barreling across the continent. The “loop of cloud” is expected to bring sharp showers and heavy thunderstorms to some parts of Europe. Meanwhile, the south and east of Europe are forecast blistering heat with hot sunshine beaming down on some areas.

BBC Weather forecaster Alina Jenkins said: “We will begin with the earlier satellite picture, our eyes are drawn to this loop of cloud, all tied in with an area of low-pressure bringing some very wet and windy weather recently across the British Isles and across into Scandinavia.

“The trailing front continues across the low countries, down through France just fringing the far-north of Spain on Sunday, that is going to bring more cloud, some outbreaks of rain and to the north and west of that, quite windy with some showers.

“Across much of the eastern side of the Mediterranean, it is mainly dry with lots of sunshine.

“We have got a few sharp showers across parts of Turkey towards the Black Sea coast.

“That sunshine continues through Italy, much of Iberia, a bit more cloud for the western side of Portugal, and more cloud with some patchy rain.

“You can see that front then extending through France up to the low countries and then up to Scandinavia, so it is cool, it is showery and for many, it is quite windy as well.”

Moving into Monday, the BBC Weather forecaster said: “The front does slide itself south and eastwards, there will be some sharp showers, local thunderstorms, once again to the south we are staying dry with lots of very warm, if not hot sunshine.

“The city forecast for the week ahead reveals something quieter for London and Paris, mainly dry, some spells of sunshine. Heat and sunshine continue in Madrid and Rome as well.

The Met Office has forecast another “breezy” day for the UK on Sunday. The forecast reads: “Any rain clearing southeast England early morning. Otherwise, a breezy day with sunshine and showers, heaviest and most frequent in the northwest, also south Wales and southwest England first thing.”

Looking towards the start of next week, the Met Office said: “Sunshine and showers throughout this period. Breezy at first.

“Longer spells of rain possible in the north on Wednesday. Temperatures generally near or below average, with some chilly nights likely.”

Leading bookmaker Coral has suspended betting on this month to go down as the wettest August on record with the unsettled conditions that has already battered the country.
