BBC Weather: Europe braces for heavy rain as temperatures drop – ‘No sign of summer’ | Weather | News

The severe front will bring heavy and thundery rain for the UK, Scandinavia and Germany on Wednesday before moving to the Balkans and the Baltic states on Thursday. Weather forecaster Darren Bett warned temperatures will also drop with “no sign of summer returning” for those parts of the continent. He said: “The weather pattern across northern-eastern parts of Europe remains very changeable, very unsettled.

“No sign of summer returning. Instead, we’ve got more cloud to bring some rain in from the Atlantic.

“Ahead of that, this area of clouds has certainly brought some heavy rain towards the Baltic states.

“That’s clearing away on Wednesday with the rain heading towards Moscow.

“Some heavy rain around Warsaw and all the way down towards to Balkans as well.

“That rain heavy and thundery and it will start to drop the temperatures in the Balkans after all that heat that we’ve had.

“Instead the heat is getting squeezed out towards Albania, Bulgaria, Romania, Greece, into Turkey and Cyprus.

“It’s going to get very hot again on Wednesday with strong sunshine too.”

He added: “Behind the heavy and thundery rain we’ve got some dry weather across much of Italy.

“Drying off across northern areas. Wednesday should be dry across the bulk of Iberia with some sunshine.

“Heading north to northern parts of France and into the UK we’ve got the winds picking up a bit with some cloud and some rain.

For the rest of the summer, the Met Office long-range forecast predicts: “The unsettled theme looks set to continue, with low pressure systems affecting the UK.

“This is likely to bring spells of rain, which could be heavy at times, especially in the west or northwest.

“These will be interspersed by brighter and showery interludes across the UK.

“It will be windy too, with gales at times, especially in the north and west.

“Any drier spells are likely to be brief, and will most likely be in the south or southwest.

“Towards the end of the period, there are some signs that longer drier spells may occur, especially in the south.”
