Arsenal team news: Predicted 4-3-3 line up to face Liverpool – Pepe decision, Ozil return? | Football | Sport

Arsenal and Liverpool are the only teams in the Premier League who have won their opening two games, however, at least one of them will lose this record when the final whistle is blown.

The Gunners have not found Anfield a great place to visit recently, as they have lost both of their league games at the stadium in the last two years, with a 5-1 defeat last season and a 4-0 loss the year before.

However, Emery has been busy this summer following the departure of several veteran players. He has looked to strengthen throughout his squad in the transfer window, while also giving some young players a chance to stake a claim for a place in the first-team.

One player who is expected to make his Arsenal starting debut against Liverpool is new signing Nicolas Pepe.

The 24-year-old swapped Lille for north London in the summer in a £72million move and so far has only made an appearance off the bench in the Gunners 2-1 victory over Burnley.

Another player who could also make their first start of the season is Mesut Ozil.

The German has yet to feature in Arsenal’s opening two games of the season, as he was absent from their 1-0 win over Newcastle due to “further security incidents”, following an attempted carjacking and he also watched on from the stands as Arsenal beat Burnley at the Emirates, when he was ruled out due to illness.

However, Ozil is now back in full training and Emery said he would make final checks on the player ahead of Saturday’s clash.

“He needs to be fit. He is training normally with the team,” Emery said.

“That is the first way to achieve that, and after that he can help us with his capacity. We will make a final decision today.”

Arsenal’s attacking line-up should see Alexandre Lacazette lead the line with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang keeping his place on the wing and Pepe coming in on the other flank for youngster Reiss Nelson.

Ozil is expected to sit behind Lacazette and could have Granit Xhaka, who is also back in full training, and Dani Ceballos either side of him in the middle of the park.

Emery is still limited on his choice of defenders and as a result will be expected to keep the same four who started against Burnley.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Nacho Monreal will be on the right and left flanks respectively and Sokratis Papastathopoulos and David Luiz will start as centre-backs ahead of Bernd Leno in goal.

Emery will be pleased defender Rob Holding is now participating in full training but the defender is still rehabilitating his left knee injury. The same is true for Hector Bellerin, who is not expected back until October.

New signing Kieran Tierney is also continuing to receive treatment on his groin injury and he is predicted to be available for selection at the same time as Bellerin.
