Tottenham XI: Lloris, Sanchez, Vertonghen, Alderweireld, Rose, Winks, Eriksen, Sissoko, Lamela, Son, Kane

  • Alexandre Lacazette pulls one back in first-half stoppage time

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

70: Boos from Arsenal fans as Alexandre Lacazette is swapped for Henrik Mkhitaryan. The supporters don’t know that the Frenchman asked to be changed – it seems he’s got a flare up of that previous ankle injury.

68: Save! Instant impact from Dani Ceballos, who fires a dipping rocket at Hugo Lloris, who tips it over the crossbar.

65: This is just madness. Pure and simple. Neither side is pausing for breath – just all-out-attack. Lacazette booked for tripping Harry Kane.

63: Woodwork! Totally against the run of play Eriksen threads it through to Harry Kane, who leathers one against the inside of the post from an impossible angle.

Dele Alli makes his first Premier League bow this season. He’s on for Erik Lamela. Dani Ceballos joins the party. He’s on for Lucas Torreira.

59: Save! Matteo Guendouzi nearly pulls Arsenal level with a first-time snapshot just inside the area but Hugo Lloris makes an outstanding save. Sead Kolasinac is then inches from tapping home Alexandre Lacazette’s flick-on but the ball JUSt alludes his toe.

Arsenal turning the screw now. Spurs are creaking. Surely there’s going to be a gaol shortly…

60: Christian Eriksen boots the ball away stupidly right under the referee’s nose. Booked.

56: Penalty appeal! Arsenal fans want a penalty as Danny Rose, who’s already on a booking, ushers Nicolas Pepe out of play. It looked a bit clumsy but definitely not a spot-kick for me. Or Martin Atkinson. Or VAR.

55: Save! Son collects on the edge of the box, his attempt takes a deflection and Leno does well to tip it around the post. The corner is hoofed into orbit by Sokratis. A proper ‘ave it clearance that.

53: Steady, Hugo. Lloris received a backpass from Sissoko and dithered with it. He played a short pass out that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seized on but couldn’t bring it under his control.

51: The pendulum swings again with Tottenham winning a corner. Christian Eriksen send sit deep but Bernd Leno easily plucks it out of the sky. Unsurprisingly there’s a frantic feel about this now. Anything could happen at the Emirates in the next 45 minutes.

48: An early chance for Alexandre Lacazette, who guides Ainsley Maitland-Niles’ cross towards goal – but the connection isn’t there and Hugo Lloris clutches it.

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

45: And we’re back underway folks.

Arsenal trailed 2-1 to their north London rivals at the Emirates last season. Remember what happened? The Gunners went on to seal a 4-2 victory.

Twitter reaction

Anuk: The only way Arsenal can possibly win this game is by outscoring Spurs because the Gunners clearly can’t defend!

Imli: That’s expressionless celebration from Alexandre Lacazette shows how frustrated he is today. Why are we trailing when we should be leading comfortably.

Sean: Granit Xhaka would be late for his own funeral and show up already on a yellow card.

Gus: David Luiz is the most useless defender I’ve ever seen, how do you put him in the bin? I hate Granit Xhaka so much that I literally don’t know what to say anymore, I’m just sick of him!

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM

HT: Spurs were 30 seconds from going in with a two-goal advantage thanks to some abysmal defending from Arsenal and a moment of familiar madness from Granit Xhaka. But Alexandre Lacazette’s stoppage-time goal has really teed this up for a grandstand second-half. Don’t go anywhere!

ARSENAL 1-2 TOTTENHAM | LACAZETTE

46: GOAL! Lifeline! And It’s a lifeline provided by a superb piece of skill from Alexandre Lacazette.

The French striker somehow brings Nicolas Pepe’s fizzed pass under his spell at the first time of asking before setting himself and firing into the roof of the net from an acute angle. Game on!

45: Can Arsenal pull one back before the break? Moussa Sissoko fouls Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang just outside the box on the left, Nicolas Pepe and Alexandre Lacazette are weighing it up…

It’s Lacazette… save! Hugo Lloris pushes it wide and Danny Rose appears to have handled the rebound. Arsenal fans are raging – they think they should have a penalty.

44: Save! Nicolas Pepe makes himself a few yards before whipping a devilish low effort on target. Hugo Lloris blocks the shot and scrambles to gather with Alexandre Lacazette closing in.

41: Just seen a replay of the Granit Xhaka challenge again. He’s extremely lucky to have avoided a red card. What a disaster.

ARSENAL 0-2 TOTTENHAM | KANE

39: GOAL! What does Harry Kane do with penalties? He scores them. Emphatically. Leno sent the wrong way and Spurs have themselves a two-goal advantage in the north London derby.

PENALTY TO TOTTENHAM

38: Granit Xhaka. What on earth were you thinking?! The midfielder slides in late on Son Heung-Min inside the area and referee Martin Atkinson has no option but to point at the spot, Madness.

35: “Arsenal have to keep coming down the right-hand side. Danny Rose is on a yellow card… face him up, see if you can entice him into another silly tackle,” Jamie Redknapp says. I think they would but Spurs have weathered the storm and they are creating a few more openings.

Danger! Christian Eriksen is stood over a free-kick around 25 yards from goal… save! Bernd Leno pushes it wide.

34: Just a comedy of errors here. Harry Kane is allowed time and space to pick his spot with a long-ranger. Again Bernd Leno parries it away but not far enough and Son collects. He squares for Kane but the striker inexplicably takes a touch to control instead of lashing it home.

33: Referee Martin Atkinson has been waiting to show Erik Lamela a card and it comes in the 33rd-minute for tugging on Lucas Torreira’s shirt. Arsenal waste the corner and Spurs hoof it upfield.

The Gunners applying all the pressure but Hugo Lloris remains untested.

30: Booked! No idea why Hugo Lloris has played it short to Jan Vertonghen with Arsenal playing a high press. He just about squeezes it through to Danny Rose, who commits the foul and is booked.

Good crossing position for Pepe… and Harry Kane turns it behind for a corner. All action happening here folks.

28: Not a bad effort from Pepe. Correction: It was quite a poor effort as the ball timely flies five-yards wide of the target.

27: Arsenal’s front three have shown promise but there’s no guile in the midfield to feed them. Easy to say in retrospect but Dani Ceballos or Mesut Ozil should be on the field.

Danger! Toby Alderweireld concedes a free-kick in a central position about 25-yards from goal. Nicolas Pepe is setting the ball down but David Luiz wants it.

24: Close! Aubameyang floats a cross to Nicolas Pepe at the back post, but Danny Rose does well to get across and block his header. The corner comes to nothing.

21: Atmosphere getting nice and feisty now as Arsenal fans respond to Tottenham’s “Stand up if you love the Spurs” with “Stand up if you’ve won the league”. Sick burn, bro…

19: Arsenal have recorded 13 errors leading to goals in the Premier League since the start of last season; the most of any club in the competition. In fact, Bernd Leno has made the most of any player in this period with six.

16: What a save! Wowzers, Bend Leno has made amends. Spurs break and Son Heung-Min runs the length of the field before cutting inside and curling one at goal. It’s heading for the top right-hand corner until the Arsenal stopper tips it wide at full-stretch.

He then gathers the in-swinging corner. Good recovery.

13: That’s really galvanised Spurs and made this already vulnerable Arsenal defence creek a little more. Christian Eriksen decides to fire from 20 yards but it’s straight at Bend Leno.

11: Christian Eriksen has now scored 50 Premier League goals – the first Danish player to reach this landmark – whilst also becoming the first Spurs player to register both 50+ goals and assists for the club in the competition.

ARSENAL 0-1 TOTTENHAM | ERIKSEN

10: GOAL! Tottenham have the lead – and it’s an absolute gift from Arsenal.

Son Heung-Min’s pass releases Erik Lamela in acres of space. He shifts it to his right and unloads a fairly tame effort that Bernd Leno inexplicably parries into the path of Christian Eriksen, who converts from point-blank range.

Gary Neville is taking aim at Sokratis Papastathopoulos for getting nowhere near Harry Kane in the build-up. He’s right.

9: Arsenal have a corner half-cleared to Ainsley Maitland-Niles outside the box. He lines one up but Harry Kane blocks before it can reach the goal. Thunderbolt of a hit though.

6: Not like Christian Eriksen to gift the ball away cheaply. He allows Xhaka to nick it off his toes and tee up Alexandre Lacazette, who couldn’t get his shot away.

4: Apparently we’re calling this Arsenal attacking trifecta – PAL. I wasn’t consulted on the abbreviation but I quite like it. Friendlier than the SAS of Liverpool all those years ago.

Spurs already experiencing problems down that right. Read Kolasinac is bombing down the channel at every opportunity with Davinson Sanchez playing too narrow. Moussa Sissoko is basically having to fill in at right wing-back.

3: Spurs are playing a 4-4-2 with Davinson Sanchez in at right-back. Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks holding with Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane up front.

Nicolas Pepe has his first crack at goal. He fires from distance but the ball rises high into the stands.

ARSENAL 0-0 TOTTENHAM

1: And we’re underway folks! The 186th north London derby is underway. Standby for mayhem…

Here they come!

16:27: The two sides have just emerged to a ferocious atmosphere at the Emirates. Tottenham were made to wait a good few minutes before Arsenal arrived in the tunnel. Are we calling that mind games or just terrible punctuality?

Five-minute warning

16:25: You’ve got five minutes to calm yer nerves for the north London derby, folks. Sky Sports are showing us endless montages of previous games over the years. It’s actually kind of annoying.

Harry off target?

16:23: Harry Kane has had only two shots on target this season, scoring with both of them against Aston Villa before blanking against Manchester City and Newcastle. But you’d be a fool to write him off today, right?

Arsenal vs Tottenham LIVE: Premier League score, goals and updates

All the stats

Tottenham have only won two of their 27 Premier League away matches versus Arsenal.

This is the 186th north London derby. Arsenal have won 77 times, Tottenham 58 with 50 draws

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has scored just three goals in 14 league games against sides from the established top six

Harry Kane’s record of nine goals in north London derbies is bettered only by Emmanuel Adebayor

Change of plan?

16:15: Interesting move from Mauricio Pochettino. And by interesting – I of course mean weird.

It appears that Spurs will play a back-four with Davinson Sanchez at right-back. Didn’t Toby Alderweireld play RB for Belgium?

Tim Sherwood…

16:10: Tim Sherwood got his crystal ball out earlier this week and predicted Arsenal would win the north London derby if four players started.

Those four players were: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Dani Ceballos. The vigilant among you will know that the Spanish loanee is on the bench.

“They need to play their best players, their most offensive players,” Sherwood told Premier League Productions. “Lacazette has to play with Aubameyang and Pepe for me, you need to get Ceballos into the side because he is a fantastic young talent on loan from Real Madrid.

“If they play their most attacking players, the best technical footballers on Sunday in the north London derby, they will beat Tottenham.”

Full time

16:05: Everton held out for a 3-2 victory over Wolves. Twice pegged back, but Richarlison proved the difference in the five-goal thriller. Oh, and Willy Boly was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Twitter reaction

Michael: Don’t think I can remember being less confident going into a derby as i do today. Just hard to see Spurs getting anything at all, let alone a win. Hope I am wrong, very wrong.

Johnny: Looking at both team selections today, it has to be a 1-1 or 2-2 draw. The front Arsenal three are sharp and Eriksen and Vertonghen start.

Andrew: Disappointed with no Ceballos &/or Willock but mostly disappointed there’s no Martinelli on the bench, however fantastic to have the front 3, very exciting. Just hope they get the service they need.

Elsewhere…

15:45: One heck of a match going on at Goodison Park this afternoon.

Everton led 2-1 after 11 crazy first-half minutes. Raul Jimenez levelled things in the 75th-minute but Richarlison restored the advantage with a glancing header. Just a few minutes left in that one.

Team News – Tottenham

15:40: Mauricio Pochettino finally welcomes Jan Vertonghen back into the fold. Whatever contract dispute was going on has clearly been put to one side for a game of this magnitude.

Real Madrid-linked Christian Eriksen also comes into the side. Looks like the Dane will stay for another season.

Dele Alli and Lucas Moura are only on the bench with Argentine Erik Lamela starting in attack. Kyle Walker-Peters drops out.

Team News – Arsenal

15:35: Arsenal make three changes from the side who suffered that defeat to Liverpool last weekend.

The Spanish tactician includes Alexandre Lacazette, Lucas Torreira and Saed Kolasinac. The latter starting in place of Nacho Monreal, who left for Real Sociedad yesterday.

Dani Ceballos and Joe Willock drop to the bench, alongside Mesut Ozil. That’s £350k per week Ozil on the bench.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Nicolas Pepe and Lacazette are unleashed together.

15:30: And here are the line-ups. The attacking trio do indeed start together. Full analysis on the way.

Arsenal XI: Leno, Maitland-Niles, Sokratis, Luiz, Kolasinac, Torreira, Xhaka, Guendouzi, Pepe, Lacazette, Aubameyang.

Subs: Martinez, Mkhitaryan, Ceballos, Ozil, Chambers, Nelson, Willock.

Line-ups…

15:28: We’re just moments away from seeing those line-ups. Will Unai Emery start Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together for the first time?

The standings

15:25: It’s never a great idea to look at the Premier League table, especially considering Crystal Palace currently occupy a Champions League spot – but I’m going to anyway.

Today is a real opportunity for Arsenal to get some breathing distance. They could open up a five-point gap between themselves and Spurs with a victory – they could also move four ahead of Manchester United and Chelsea.

Afternoon

15:20: You here for the 186th north London derby? Good – you’ve come to the right place.

What an absolute barnstormer we’ve got ahead of us. Arsenal, who look rejuvenated under Unai Emery, take on a inconsistent Tottenham – who have taken just 15 points from 15 games.

Both have incredible firepower, both need the points and both are desperate for those all-important bragging rights.

Ok, let’s get started!

ARSENAL vs TOTTENHAM – TEAM NEWS

Arsenal could be set to start Alexandre Lacazette, Nicolas Pepe and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang together for the first time against Tottenham today.

The trio are yet to feature in the same starting XI but manager Unai Emery could go on the offensive when Spurs visit the Emirates for the first north London derby of the season.

The Spaniard deployed a diamond midfield last time out against Liverpool but Lacazette could return to the first team if Emery opts for a 4-3-3 formation packed full of his attacking talents.

Sead Kolasinac will start at left-back following Nacho Monreal’s departure to Real Sociedad while David Luiz will continue alongside Sokratis Papastathopoulos with Kieran Tierney, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin and Konstantinos Mavropanos all injured.

Mauricio Pochettino will be forced to shuffle his squad against Arsenal this afternoon as Tottenham contend with injuries to a number of first-team players.

Spurs are without Kyle Walker-Peters and Juan Foyth at right-back while potential stand-in Eric Dier is doubtful due to a hip injury.

Tanguy Ndombele is also sidelined while Dele Alli is also unlikely to feature as he continues his recovery from a hamstring injury, but Pochettino is not concerned about his lack of options.
