Alexis Sanchez agrees Man Utd exit with Inter Milan medical scheduled for today | Football | Sport

Manchester United have agreed a deal with Inter Milan that will see Alexis Sanchez join the Italian club on loan.

The 30-year-old striker has struggled to during his time at Old Trafford and has not been able to reproduce the goal-scoring threat he was while playing for Arsenal and Barcelona.

Sanchez has scored only five goals in 45 appearances since he left the Emirates in January 2018.

The Chile international has fallen down the pecking order at United with Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial being manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s preferred choices up front.

Even academy graduate Mason Greenwood is currently ahead of Sanchez, with the youngster having made three substitute appearances so far this season.

Inter Milan have reached an agreement with United to take Sanchez on loan for 10 months but there is not an option for the Serie A club to buy the player as part of the deal.

Sanchez has come under criticism for his performances for the Red Devils given his reported salary of £400,000-a-week.

Inter cannot afford to pay the player’s entire wages for the course of the agreement and previous offers from the Italian club have reportedly seen them offer to pay £150,000-a-week of Sanchez’s wages however, this was rejected by United who wanted more.

However, according to Italian publication Calciomercato, Inter have agreed to pay United €5m to take Sanchez on loan.

They also claim the player is due to fly to Milan to have a medical on Wednesday ahead of being confirmed an Inter player.

Sanchez will join former United team-mate Romelu Lukaku at Inter, after the Italian side signed the striker this summer for £74million, which consisted of £60m in guaranteed fees and £14m in add-ons.

The Belgian had also fallen out of favour with Solskjaer, despite scoring 15 goals in 45 games for United last season.

Lukaku marked his first appearance for the Nerazzurri on Monday and was on the scoresheet as Inter beat Lecce 4-0.

And after the game Inter boss Antonio Conte insisted Lukaku was a bargain signing because the fee had been agreed to be paid over several years.

“Let’s not forget Lukaku cost €65m (£59m) to be paid over five years, so when people talk about big money spent, it wasn’t even that much,” he said.

“Tonight, Lukaku showed why we tried so hard to sign him.

“Lukaku entered the world of Inter in the best way, with great humility.

“He’s a gentle giant, a giant with a smile. He is ready to work for the team.”
